Cantine Turina

Cantine Turina ( www.turinavini.it ) is a small family owned producer of wines and olive oils located in Northern Italy. The business is run by the three Turina brothers: Luigi, Dario and Paolo. Paolo is responsible for the vineyards, Dario is responsible for production of the wines and Luigi runs the business. The family has been growing grapes on this land for several generations and these wines reflect the passion and commitment to the family traditions.

The vineyards are located along the southwestern shores of Lake Garda ( www.gardalake.com ) . This large deep lake forms the border between the states of Lombardy and Veneto. The microclimates that develop around its shores create unique and optimum conditions for the growth of many different grape varietals and allow the production of wines that are the finest expression of these fruits. Cantine Turina vineyards comprise over 20 separate plots in two adjacent regions; the Lugana and the Valtenesi.

The Lugana region consists of just a few villages from along the southern shores of the lake, from Peschiera west to Desenzano, and including Sirmione. Here the green Trebbiano Lugana grape reaches is full potential and allows for the production of this flavorful white wine with its distinctive straw green color.

The Valtenesi ( www.gardavaltenesi.com ) includes the seven villages of Padenghe, Manerba, San Felice, Puegnago, Polpenazze, Soiano and Moniga, the home of Cantine Turina. The climate here is perfect for development of the Groppello and Marzemino grapes. These grapes grow in small dense clusters and require dry air and consistent winds to ensure that the grapes develop without molds or fungus. The vines require extensive pruning and care, but produce exquisite small berries that concentrate the sugars and produce deep flavorful wines.

These varietals have been grown in these regions for many centuries because they are perfectly suited to the climate and the nurtured care from passionate, dedicated locals like Paolo, Dario and Luigi.
